NEW CRUISE SHIP TERMINAL IN NORDHAVNEN
Simultaneously with developing Nordhavnen, CPH City & Port Development is planning to build a new cruise ship terminal. The wharf of this terminal, sitting at the farthest end of Nordhavnen, will be 800 metres long – three large cruise ships will be able to berth here at the same time.
Today Copenhagen is one of the most popular cruise destinations in Northern Europe. Every year brings even more cruise tourists to the Danish capital, and many have Copenhagen as either the starting point or the final destination of their voyage. There will be a new cruise ship terminal along the eastern part of Nordhavnen, which will service the many tourists much better. This new terminal is expected finished in 2013.
Among other advantages, the new terminal will be environmentally friendly, as ships will use electricity produced ashore. Today ships must produce their own electric power, which means that their engines are running most of the time.
There will still be cruise ships berthed at Langelinie the way we know it today. But in the future the ships which are to change crew and passengers – the so-called turnaround-ships – will berth at the new cruise ship terminal at Kronløbsgraven.
