THE DEVELOPMENT - BACKGROUND


In 2005 the Danish government and the City of Copenhagen (and the City of Frederiksberg) made an agreement about developing the Metro with a so-called City Ring.
In continuation of this agreement an additional agreement was made about urban development in Nordhavnen.

The central element in the agreement is that a part of the City Ring must be financed by the City of Copenhagen funding the necessary plans for the urban development of Nordhavnen. As a part of the agreement, the CPH City & Port Development was established. The purpose of this company is to develop the areas in Ørestad and the port of Copenhagen (including Nordhavnen).

It is very important for the CPH City & Port Development that the process is characterized by a dialogue with the coming users, residents, employees, neighbours and other Copenhageners. Read about the company´s citizen dialogue vision.

Area Facts

  • altogether, Nordhavnen may house 40,000 people and provide jobs for 40,000
  • the infrastructure will be built from the very beginning
  • parking in common parking buildings
  • building a new Nordhavnsvej has started. Connecting to the highway network. From 2015 and 2016 this will give Nordhavnen even better access to the highway network
  • the master plan for Nordhavnen was designed by COBE, sleth Modernism, Polyform and Rambøll
